A society is a body of individuals of a species, generally seen as a community or group, that is outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, comprising also possible characters or conditions such as cultural identity, social solidarity, or eusociality. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals that share a distinctive culture or institutions. Like other groups, a society allows its individual members to achieve individual needs or wishes that they could not fulfill separately by themselves, without the existence of the social group. Society, however, may be unique in that it is ontologically independent of, and utterly irreducible to, the qualities of its constituent individuals. As a reality sui generis, or "of its own kind", it is emergently composed of social facts that often hinder rather than help the pursuits of the subjects that form its physical and psychological underpinnings.

More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied multitude of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society; or even a social organism such as an ant colony.

The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. Sociology is the study of society and social behavior.

How can any form of insurance function smoothly in a capitalistic society?
Q. Health, Auto, and Financial insurance. How in a capitalistic society can everyone be happy since supposedly in capitalistic society your money is only your money? Your money is what YOU have worked for? Insurance there is no guarantee that you will get the most out of the coverage because you may rarely file a claim. Any other Time you will pay monthly for something that might not happen. It seems like insurance and capitalism has nothing to do with each other and can't function without making a big mess.

What responsibility do we have to society?
Q. As human beings, what duties and what responsibilities do we have to our society and to our community, if any? To what degree does this vary in different societies?

A. Basically we want to created for ourselves and our children a better world than the one we were born into. This means a more just world with less prejudges, a better economic world, a healthier world, more laughs and less misery -- the list goes on. Choose any part or parts of the list - it will make you proud.

What are some reasons for society to accept and reject gay couples?
Q. My partner and I are a couple - a homesexual or a gay couple. we just want to be together without hiding all the time. I can't even tell my family about my relationship and they don't even know that i'm a gay. I wonder why society isn't more understanding. why can't people accept homosexual?

A. There are a whole bunch of archaic reasons to fear homos. The most prominent one you hear is religion. Almost every faith says something here or there about gay people being bad people, but if you wanna talk about religion then there are a whole bunch of contradictions there. I usually just say "Love thy neighbor" and walk on, but if people want to get feisty with me one that one I just bring up the whole "slavery is ok, but shaving is forbidden, oh and all women are supposed to cover their heads at all times, and no one is allowed to eat meat on fridays." The other part is the general social stigma of fearing something that you don't understand. I don't get how men can be attracted to women, but it's the norm, whereas other people don't… [cont.]
