How are social issues different from economic issues?
Q. I have to answer this for class. However, I'm not sure what the right answer is. What I've come up with so far is that economic issues such as men and women receiving equal pay, are affected by social issues, such as society's view that a woman's work is less important. Any ideas?
Asked by Summer - Fri Oct 12 16:27:54 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are a lot of social issues which have no relation to economics at all, both at national levels of society, and at family levels. Social issues are more of the abstract type (which you can't show physically) but most of the economic issues are of the concrete type (which you can show physically). For example relegious fundamentalism. Religious fundamentalists don't quote any economic concerns. Their only point is the kind of belief in God. Simlarly at the level of a family, there could be a social issue due to economics involved, like living standards, who should work, etc. But sexual issues are not related to economics in the family. Similarly bringing up children with cultural values.

A. Take NAACP for example. NAACP will most likely continue to progress their organization's base by promoting more and more civil rights reforms. So, what does the NAACP care about today? And for the future? Just read the NAACP Youth and College Division Mission Statement: "The mission of the NAACP Youth & College Division shall be to inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities; to advance the economic, education, social and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples; to stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color s contribution to civilization; and to develop an… [cont.]

What are some political issues concerning alternative energy?
Q. I can think of plenty of economic issues, but I can't seem to think of any political issues.
Asked by BenitoLim - Mon Dec 1 01:04:34 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. One major issue concerning the development and utilization of alternative energy sources is the lack of political will to support such endeavor. In the US, former president Bill Clinton did not submit the Kyoto Protocol (an international treaty which aims to reduce the collective emission of Greenhouse Gases in signatory nations) to the Republican-dominated Senate who opposed the abovesaid amendment. Environmental policies in developing nations, like the Philippines, are not adequate, as they permit multinational and transnational companies to deliberately exploit their natural resources for economic gain while disregarding local environmental policies. A. Bullying and changing. I remember when I was in elementry school (I had just moved to a new school/house, and my parents were getting a divorce) the girls used to tease me because I was fat. Thats when I developed my first eating disorder. People thought I was weird. Changes for puberty start to happen close to 4-5th grade, which can be akward and confusing. For the younger kids, its mainly bullying and finding friends.

Q. What were the issues that influenced the outcome of the elcection of 1852?
Asked by Isa - Tue Mar 4 18:22:33 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The United States presidential election of 1852 was in many ways a replay of the election of 1844. Once again, the incumbent President was a Whig who had succeeded to the presidency upon the death of his war hero predecessor; in this case, it was Millard Fillmore who followed General Zachary Taylor. The Whig party passed over the incumbent for nomination casting aside Fillmore in favor of General Winfield Scott. The Democrats nominated a "dark horse" candidate, this time Franklin Pierce. The Whigs again campaigned on the obscurity of the Democratic candidate, and once again this strategy failed. Pierce and running mate William King would go on to win what was at the time one of the nation's largest electoral victories, trouncing Scott… [cont.]

Which issues could improve commercial air safety most that are easy or cheap to implement?
Q. Ryan P said in a recent post; You seem to have a bit of an obsession with 'pax aircraft fires'. There are far more addressable issues which could easily save more lives.
Asked by stuttgart - Wed Dec 19 19:25:54 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First, nothing in aviation is cheap or easy to implement. To get anything changed, first there has to be a NPRM (notice of proposed rule making) where the public has a chance to respond to (not including emergency rules), then a hearing on how the rule will be implemented, and to whom, and who may be exculded, then a benefit/cost analysis, then a meeting to address how these will be paid for, then a meeting with the FAA to get their feedback, then argued in court by the airlines because they dont want to incur any more costs that will take away from the bottom end, then the increased costs to passengers to recoup some of these new rules. But aside from this, there are a few things that could help, one is having more direct nav flights,… [cont.]

What is the biggest development issues in Indonesia right now?
Q. Would you say smoking prevalence and deforestation are the biggest developmental issues in Indonesia? I'd think so, since they don't seem to have any rules restricting children smoking, with all the news about the 2-year old smoking in Indonesia. And how about deforestation? Is poverty the reason why people still rely on mass cutting down of trees? Keep in mind the keyword, "developmental" issues :) - It might be more relevant if people living in Indonesia respond, but you're welcome to share your thoughts.

A. Well a good start would be to stop all the petty wars that are going on around the Globe. Some Countries never seem to stop fighting, and killing most of their own people as well. Words are better than Wars but it seems that they really do not know what that means. Lets face it they would fight over an inch of Land if they thought it was theirs, and then escalate it into a major war involving all of us. All these Wars lead to the poverty of people involved, and housing they live in no longer stand there., so these people suffer all the time and never have a life of their own. While the Men at the top who lead them into a War live in the lap of luxury, because it does not affect them. It is a crime against Humanity, and the rest of… [cont.]

What moral issues do vets face when an animal is brougt in and the owner cannot afford the medical bills?
Q. Hi my name is michelle and im currently Doing a yr 12 major on the moral issues vets face when they have to euthanize an animal because the owner cannot afford an operation or something similar. If anyone with experience with this could give me some information it would really help!! Thanks.
Asked by Michelle - Fri Sep 19 04:32:01 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think vets become somewhat emotionally detached, as do paramedics, doctors, and nurses, to be honest. I'm saying this because I saw a program about paramedics last night, and they even admitted being 'numb' and being able to detach themselves from a patient- if you got too attached, emotionally, you wouldn't be able to do the jobs. Vets are the same way. Caring? Yes. But not emotionally invovled. I don't think they become...blunt, as in 'I'm putting your animal to sleep, end of', but they don't feel so morally attached to the situation because you can't get emotionally involved like that. You can't do the work for free or cheaper, so it's not really a moral issue- it's just realistic. Things cost money- anesthetic, x-rays, surgery time- [cont.]

A. The core area of debt structuring, innovation (lol- read dodgy) and issuance is the US and some other G7 countries, particularly the UK. Global transfers of capital from borrowers to lenders washes through the major financial centres of the world eg. USA - with the USA being heavily indebted to China. Around the main debt issuance from the USA was also the massive growth of complementary financial products such as CDS -issued by companies such as AIG and others. These credit enhancement products made the debt issued out of the US appear more attractive- (aided by spurious ratings from the debt rating agencies e.g. Moody's and S & P). The periphery can be described as those countries that a) Purchase considerable amounts of debt issued… [cont.]
