A. It's hard to say, i think it certainly is a contributing factor, but not for all children. As far as psychological research into this is concerned, the results have been pretty contradictory. Here are just a few examples. Research for the idea that the media contributes to aggressive/violent behaviour... Parke et al (1977) - Conducted a field experiment. He used American and Belgian male delinquents in his research first, he measured their baseline levels of aggression and then he showed one cottage 5 violent films in one week and the other cottage 5 non-violent films in the same week. He found that those who d watched violent films showed higher levels of violence in some categories. Belson (1978) - He analysed the amount of violence… [cont.]

What is love and is domestic violence a way of showing love for your partner?
Q. This is a general question as I am curious as to how fathers can beat up the mother for years, purport to love the children and think that this is normal behaviour. The police see family matters as something entirely different to violence between strangers. Surely, violence is violence and those who beat up another person should be sent to prison.
Asked by helene123 - Thu Sep 28 17:27:38 2006 - - 45 Answers - 1 Comments

A. .Domestic violence isnt about love, but about power and bullying over another person. The person who does the beating has low self esteem and feels the need to suppress the other person who they fear will ultimately leave them in the end. The police DO NOT treat domestic violence differently. In fact, it is took very seriously. The tide is changing. In the UK, the police actually have a duty to make a 72hr turn around on domestic violence crime reports. The problem the police face is that often the victim will withdraw the complaint, refuse to go to court and go back to their abusive partner.

What mental illnesses are related to violence?
Q. I'm having a really difficult time trying to find a list of mental illnesses that are related to violence, I need to have a basic understanding of which mental illnesses are related to violence for a debate. If you could list which specific mental illnesses are related to violence I would be most appreciative. Further, if you could cite your sources that would be even better, but it's not necessary. Thanks in advance.

Why are men suprised violence against women is taken more seriously?
Q. Men commit far more violence against women than the other way around and that is a FACT. accept it. Men are far physically stronger than women. A hit from a woman can barely cause any damage while a hit from a man could seriously hurt a woman. That's why that whole "don't hit girls" thing came from and that's why man on woman violence is taken more seriously than woman on man violence. Its really not that hard to figure out.

A. It is part of the job, do we go to work thinking we are going to be killed today, sure we do! When I put on my uniform, I put on a target, so it is time to make sure everything is working properly and go into survival mode! Every time an officer makes contact with a citizen, there is the potential for violence, there is always a gun present when an officer is around, so the potential for gun violence is always present! More prison time for violent offenders, less for criminals who are non-violent!!!

Q. Hypocritical much? How can you protest violently against violence? I was mainly thinking of the violent protests against the BNP today, but also the protests against racial violence against indian students in Australia that turned into racial violence.

A. Protests must intensify all around the world and must be done wisely and well directed, not against each other. It's the only way we can save ourselves from enslavement. We must react, and embrace the awakening. BUT people should do it following Gandhi's example - with NON-violence, no matter what.

A. Realize that the study of media vilence is an incredible topic of DEBATE. You need to pratice common sense here and just stay away from the outside sources regarding it. This isn't about the "greater community" this is about your "family unit". What you need to understand that want makes violence such a hard subject for a wee one to handle has everything to do with how there raised and little to do with the stimula envolved. Really what you need to do is pratice a general rule of thumb. DON'T let you kiddo: Watch TV that has issues or content that you not "comfrontable" talking with you kiddo about. Me personal have watched every concieveable level of violence since before I could put words to it. If I credit me not becoming a pysco-murder… [cont.]

Q. And do you think these should be limited in books for young people (teens mainly)? I personally don't have a problem with either, you can find a lot of books for children and young people with violence presented very casually within them. A. even if you take out those scenese from books...they will see it on TV --MOVIES and even in Real Life...so there's just no escaping it. it's natural as breathing. I guess parents just have to be open and honest about things like that with their kids that way when they pick up a book and read something that's over-the-top --they won't be ignorant and can weigh their reactions and responses to such texts. Ignorance and Illiteracy are the problem... It's all a matter of perspective...even some Religious books have violence and sex...

Why does Quentin Tarantino portrays so relentless violence which is rather clownish, is he a saddist?
Q. I think he should be blacklisted for propagating flagrant violence. What is your personal opinion on his films ?
Asked by crimson night - Tue Jul 20 04:39:46 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Tarantino is a genius and should not be black listed. Sure, his movies are at times sick, violent, and far fetched, but the storylines, plots and characters are what draw people in. He has his own unique style of making films and many people seem to like it. His stories aren't meant to be happy, that doesn't make him a saddist. There are so many other movies out there nowadays with pointless violence, sex, gore, torture, etc. why should Tarantino be black listed. He may use violence, but it's part of a story, it's not like the sole purpose of his movies are violence, like many other movies of today.

A. Excellent idea. The first thing you should do is check and see if there isn't one in your community already. If there is, it would be better to get involved with what is available rather than creating a situation where neither organization can get funding (funding is often split amongst communities). If there isn't a program, than you can do several things to start one: 1. Do some research on funding possibilities. You can start with looking up VAWA and VOCA online. 2. Do some research on foundations similiar to what you want to do, then call them! Other organizations in the nation would be happy to help and make suggestions. 3. Start going around and asking businesses in your community whether they would be interested in sponsoring… [cont.]
