How did the United states foreign policy affect the nation's economic and military strength?
Q. This is the foreign policy in 1793-1812 and then 1895-1911, and how it changed to make us more imperialistic, and focus on external improvements.

A. Foreign policy of US is always short sighed and they involve themselves in all worldly affairs and send their army and defence forces unnecessarily everywhere and get defeated and hence loose money and military strength. This has been proved time and again in Cuba, korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and now in Iraq.

Q. What was the general foreign policy approach of the Soviet Union regarding the United States during the Cold War?
Asked by yogosun12 - Sun Oct 26 11:11:06 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The general foreign policy of every nuclear nation during that time can be summed up in 3 letters: M.A.D. Mutually Assured Distruction was the policy that said that if both sides of the war have the capability of totally wiping the other off the map in a globally devestating nuclear war, then neither side is willing to start one. That policy kept the world on the brink of nuclear distruction without ever allowing it to cross that line. There are, of course, much more specific answers that get into all kinds of nuances, but that is the general policy you asked for.

Q. Could someone please tell me what the current us foreign Policy toward Haiti is, AFTER the earthquake hit.
Asked by Michela - Sun May 30 09:21:02 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think its interesting how there is almost no media coverage of the Haiti Earthquake right now. We send billions and billions of dollars in relief, through government-promoted agencies such as the Red Cross, and yet we receive no update as to how things are going?... Only around 20% of the collected funds from the Red Cross actually go towards the relief effort. As the other guy said, "The Obama Doctrine" represents our relationship with Haiti after the earthquake.

A. The Cold War was a conflict between nations of short actual military conflict, but rather the political, diplomatic, economic, and strategic competition between the U.S. and the Soviet Union from 1946 to 1991. Because of the terror of communism in the U.S. and the belief in the domino theory (theory that communism will keep spreading and take over the world if not stopped) and Kennan's theory of containment (containing communism so that it doesn't spread), the U.S. intervened in Asia and Latin America to try to prevent the spreading of communism since the Soviet Union had planted the seeds of communism there. In Asia, the entire Korean and Vietnam wars were about this, and in China, the U.S. didn't militarily intervene, but backed the… [cont.]

A. Obama has jaunted to France, Germany and the Middle East--with intense media focus on the latter, because of his clear ties ( which he claims he's long broken from ) the Islamic Muslim faith. Your discovery of "mixed answers" comes from Obama's ability to PR smoke-screen the illusion he's mastered the art of Foreign Affairs---which in fact he's far far from even coming close to achieving. Obama is way too fuzzy / unclear a person for me to comfortably vote him for President; I don't want a man of such mystery gaining control of the White House.

If Ron Paul supported Iraq and the current foreign policy, would he be a more popular Republican candidate?
Q. I ask because it seems his economic policies, for which he is often labeled a cook, are right in line with the conservative agenda. Low taxes, small government, reduced spending, etc etc (basically the exact opposite of socialism). It seems to me that is merely his stance on foreign policy that gets him so little respect and votes. Would you say this is accurate?
Asked by Marcello - Tue Feb 12 16:36:22 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. he is not popular because he is trying to get rid of the federal reserve and you know thats not going to happen easily. I don't think his position on the Iraq war or foreign policy make him less popular but rather "analysts" and "reporters" giving us opinions as news affects him. Well the media has made their point loud and clear...if you are not in line with us we won't give you coverage and so far their tactics are VERY effective. In NY anti war voters voted for MCCAIN! of all people McCain? man as much as I don't like Hillary why didn't they vote for her instead?

Why does it seem that foreign policy equals war?
Q. While watching the recent Presidential debates, when the subjects are of foreign policy it seems to me that the only things talked about is what this or that country is doing and should we stick our nose in with a military presence. Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't sound like foreign policy.

A. I agree. Our first option should be diplomacy. I think Obama's position is better, though--he seems to want to talk first, but leave all options on the table, if necessary. McCain is a third generation military man, and it shows in his way of thinking.

How do Americans feel about AIPAC directing foreign policy in the US government?
Q. That is to say, a foreign power has an extremely strong foothold in the US government and is using its considerable leverage to direct foreign policy (never a US strong point in the frst place). How would average Americans feel about say an Iranian or Venezuelan lobby group being equally powerful in Washington?

A. according a current research in Quinnipiac univ, Americans have chosen Israel as the third friendly country, so maybe they think it's ok and their friend could (or should?) decide for them. you know, friends are good for these days. an Iranian or Venezuelan lobby group -- lol brilliant idea; it can be part of the changes we can believe in. we have good chess masters here; they can pick some of them to make a good lobby and navigate them e.g. in their Af-Pak hell hole. hallelujah.

Asked by Jackie - Wed Mar 10 03:41:14 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Carter was the last President in the detente era, it also ended with his presidency. The single and sole reason for the change from detente back to cold war rivalry was the Soviet Unions invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. On seeing the Red army's wanton aggression in a country which was far less powerful and to prop up a communist government that too, Carter issued Presidential Directive 59 to increase US war readiness and upped defense spending and even authorize the deployment of nuclear weapons.

Do you think Obama will include the interests of developing countries in his foreign policy?
Q. I found an article discussing how the current global economic crisis will effect people who are already living in poverty. According to the article, "Current estimates suggest that a one percent decline in developing country growth rates traps an additional 20 million people into poverty. Already 100 million people have been driven INTO poverty as a result of high food and fuel prices". Do you think Obama will include the interests of developing countries in his foreign policy? How might this impact India's population issue?
Asked by Amanda M - Thu Feb 26 16:25:26 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Obama may say that he will help all those poor and impoverished in other countries but he can't really do much. I think if he cannot fix Americas financial problems then there is very little way for him to help any other countries. During the great depression the depression hit America first and spread through the rest of the world like a wave. If the most developed nation in the world is having issues those issues will include everyone. As far as the population issue for India only India can fix that. Obama can not say stop having kids and boom they will listen. Only the Indian government can fix that by instituting taxes for having to many children like China did. But i'm not really convinced that is ethical.

A. If you think appeasing rogue nations led by dictators is okay, then yes its is a good policy, if you think sending a letter to let Russia be a mediator with Iran, when in fact Russia sells them arms to use against us is okay, then its a good policy, if you think sending Hillary to do the exact same failed strategy that Bubba did, then its a good policy. My answer would be Obama is clueless and has the wrong people in the cabinet and the wrong Sec of State.
