Lord of War for an Arms Trade class?
Q. I am a teacher and the current topic I am covering is the Arms Trade. The students are 17 - 19 years old. Do you think Lord of War is a good movie to show them vis a vis the arms trade? Or, is Blood Diamonds a better film on the subject? Do you know of any other films on the topic? Many, many thanks.

A. Lord of War. Also, try "The Doomsday Gun" about real-life engineer Gerald Bull, who tried to build a huge cannon for Saddam Hussein. edit: In "Iron Man" Tony Stark has a change of heart from a gun-dealing war-profiteer to ... something else.

Is Militant Islam a threat to the West? Or is it a fiction devised by the arms trade?

Q. Why did the USA vote against an Internatoinal Arms Trade Treaty?

A. Because that would have open the flood gates for any country to trade openly and with nearly unlimited control over what they sell. For example, Russia selling nuclear technology to states on the US 'axis of evil' (i.e., North Korea or Iran). And, the US wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

A. Countless. Not all specific: Then there is the effect that the arms trade has on U.S. politics, with the arms manufacturers paying big bucks to politicians. (President Eisenhower warned about this more than 50 years ago.) if technology counts, how about Pakistan selling nuclear weapon technology to Iran and North Korea?

Aren't war, abortion, capital punishment, WMDs, the arms trade all acts of violence?
Q. I am anti war, anti abortion, anti death penalty, anti arms trade, anti weapons of mass destruction (including US weapons). I am puzzled by anti war people who don't think twice about late term abortion or anti abortion people who support capital punishment To me all these acts are violent and degrade life. Isn't it time for a consistent respect for human rights and life?
Asked by Hidup - Wed Nov 14 07:27:43 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I have weapons, does that make me violent? Aggression and abortion are not the same thing, sorry. As far as capital punishment is concerned, maybe you'd think differently if it was your own family who had been brutalized by a violent offender. Then again, maybe not. The beauty of all of this is that people can think differently, disagree, and yet the sun still rises.

Q. It says in combat arms you can do this but how?
Asked by Sanjam A - Wed Oct 7 02:50:27 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You will have to use NX points, which you can buy either prepaid or direct charge. With this you can change your default gun to a selection of others, including AK-47. If you cant afford NX, dont worry, neither can I. But there are plenty of sites in which you can get free NX points, but some of they are hackers and spammers, so good luck finding a legit one. I hope you got what you needed! Vengence94(also my account name on combat arms :)

Q. how does the mafia influence arms trade and arms control in america?
Asked by B.A.R. - Mon Dec 17 08:55:23 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The US is the world's largest exporter of weaponry, by a wide margin. The interference of the mafia is quite negligible in the big picture. Mafia go in millions - weapons exports are in the hundred billions. The mafia, cannot, like the Gun Owners of America, or some other pro-gun organization, hire lobbyists. Their activities are much more clandestine.

Q. I have to make a position paper for MUN from north Korea. The theme is arms trade. The problem is that it's my first year in MUN, and I have no idea of what i have to do, like what information and in what style those things. Can any one help me with north korea that is my country? I need to know also what allies i have to make. Like Iran? Also, is my country going to be in avour or the arms trade policy? it states that it is to ''help stop international transfers of conventional arms that are likely to be used for serious human rights violations, and fuel conflict and poverty'' ''States shall not authorise international transfers of conventional arms or ammunition '' this wouldn't let my country get arms right? but my country wants them. A. The appalling racist diatribe from Iran is a good model for what you should present for North Korea. It is ignorant, xenophobic and hate-filled - just as we would expect from North Korea, except they have no anti-Jewish bias as Iran clearly does. Iran and North Korea are all that remain of the "Axis of Evil" so I guess you might claim Iran as an ally. I think North Korea would take the line that "our people are starving - we will sell arms for food and won't be signing any arms treaty any time soon!"

Many times these weapons can be made in small shops or bought very cheap from militarys around the world. The same with rockets and other weapons. I don't think that the US policy for the right to bear arms has any effect on the US policy for arms trade. Keep in mind the right to bear arms is a domestic issue. One that was designed to give the US citizen the right to protect himself from enemies and government. Also remember the weapons used in Africa are military grade weapons(ie machine guns). A. There are a lot of 'arms control' treaties. Unfortunately the UN security council consists of the worlds top arms selling countries. Hence every treaty contains huge loopholes to suit national interests. Hence new, overlapping treaties come out all the time to gradually cover new areas.
